Halfway Life | Week Twenty-Six

We really don’t know how much time we have left on this earth. Two deaths in my family made me realize the brevity of life, and how short and fleeting it really is. We get so accustomed to the sunrises and sunsets of our lives that we don’t realize just how quickly time is running out for us.

This week is week 26, which means that there are only 26 more weeks left of this year. We are now officially halfway through 2022.

At the beginning of each new year, we usually have new year’s resolutions. By March, those resolutions fade away as we get busy with life and all its little daily tasks that take up our lives.

If you knew you only had a few years left of your life, what would you do?

A better question to ask yourself is: ‘What is the one thing I still want to do in this life?’

Because we are now halfway through this year, it’s a good time to re-evaluate our priorities and daily schedules. Are we on track with our goals, dreams, and visions? Are we on our way to ticking them off? What can we change and adjust? What boundaries do we need to lay down so that we can accomplish what we really want to do?

One simple way we can keep our vision in front of us is to have a vision board. Vision boards have been popular for a while now, the reason being that it’s so successful. I have a vision board of my own, but I’ve kept it simple so I don’t get too overwhelmed. I only have three goals for this year so far, and I’ve already ticked off one of those goals. I will start with the other two next term, but I will already plan and prepare during the next three weeks.

Before Brooke Fraser became Brooke Ligertwood from Hillsong Church, she wrote a song called the C.S. Lewis Song. In the bridge, she sings, ‘For we are not long here, our time is but a breath, so we better breathe it.’ These words are such a good reminder that we should always keep our vision before us, and do it while we still can. This reminder should make us free to live our lives the way we really want to and to start doing it from today on. We should not wait too long, for we do not have long to live.
