Sacambaya Films is proud to officially announce the completion of its debut short film, ThisAbility, and the release of the film’s first official trailer.

Set in Jeffrey’s Bay against the backdrop of South Africa’s violent taxi underworld, ThisAbility follows Abongile, a young Deaf woman who accidentally witnesses a murder and becomes trapped in a dangerous fight for survival. Blending immersive sound design, South African Sign Language, and emotionally driven storytelling, the film explores themes of identity, family, accessibility, silence, and resilience.

Written, directed, and produced by South African filmmaker Vicki Fourie, ThisAbility represents Sacambaya Films’ commitment to inclusive storytelling and authentic representation within contemporary cinema. The project brings together a passionate cast and crew of emerging and established South African talent dedicated to telling bold and emotionally grounded stories.

The film also explores representation in unique ways, challenging traditional ideas around deafness and casting within cinema. While the story centres on a Deaf protagonist connected to sign language and Deaf identity, the production additionally explores broader d/Deaf representation both on screen and behind the camera.

As a debut short film, ThisAbility marks an important milestone for Sacambaya Films and its vision of creating accessible, socially conscious, and visually compelling South African cinema.

The full short film will now begin its journey through local and international film festivals and will therefore not yet be publicly available online. However, audiences can now watch the official trailer and follow the film’s ongoing journey through behind-the-scenes content, cast and crew interviews, and festival updates that will be released across Sacambaya Films’ platforms in the coming weeks.
